Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources Education Training & Research was established as a state corporation under the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation. In cognizant of the important role for groundwater in economic development in the country, the Government of the Republic of Kenya established the Regional Centre on Groundwater Research through a Legal Notice No. 252 of 18th December, 2015. The Legal Notice was operationalized in 2016.

The aim of the Centre is to:

  1. Undertake groundwater research to increase knowledge and understanding of aquifer characteristics for sustainable development and management of groundwater
  2. Training and public awareness on groundwater knowledge and build capacities to deliver basic services in the context of a changing climate and recurring drought and floods is crucial.
